Riverdale’s Camila Mendes Joins The Fight As Teela In ‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie

Camila Mendes has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot, a live-action adaptation set to revitalise the beloved franchise. Mendes, best known for her role as Veronica Lodge in Riverdale, will portray Teela, the Captain of the Royal Guard and a pivotal character in the He-Man universe. This casting, first reported on Deadline, follows the earlier announcement that Nicolas Galitzine will star as the iconic He-Man.

Set for a theatrical release on 5 June 2026 by Amazon MGM, the film represents a significant step forward in bringing the Masters of the Universe saga back to the big screen. This project marks the franchise’s most substantial progress after several years of development challenges, which saw numerous writers, directors, and actors come and go.

The role of Teela, played by Mendes, is central to the Masters of the Universe narrative. As the adopted daughter of Man-At-Arms and a warrior charged with protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam (He-Man), her character is crucial in the battle against the forces of evil led by Skeletor. The upcoming film, while based on the iconic Mattel toy line, keeps its plot details under tight wraps, adding an element of suspense and anticipation for fans and newcomers alike.

Travis Knight, known for his work on Bumblebee, will direct the film, with the screenplay penned by Chris Butler, who previously collaborated with Knight on Kubo and the Two Strings. The production teams from Amazon MGM Studios, Escape Artists, and Mattel Films are pooling their resources to ensure that the reboot both honours its roots and offers a fresh take on the saga.

Camila Mendes’ filmography includes a mix of romantic comedies and dramas. Notably, her participation in critically acclaimed films like Palm Springs and Do Revenge, along with musical dramas such as Música, showcase her versatility as an actress capable of crossing genres — a trait that will serve her well in the action-packed world of Masters of the Universe.

The reboot aims to breathe new life into the story of Prince Adam, who transforms into the heroic He-Man to defend Eternia from Skeletor. Since its inception in the 1980s, Masters of the Universe has expanded into various animated series, including the recent Masters of the Universe: Revolution on Netflix, and the 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lungren.

Masters of the Universe will take audiences back to Eternia with its 5 June 2026 release.
