‘Battlefield 6’ Multiplayer Trailer Marks Return To Modern Warfare

Following the reveal of its single-player trailer last week, Electronic Arts (EA) has dropped a first look at the multiplayer component of its upcoming shooter, Battlefield 6, alongside its release date of 10 October 2025.

Over a lengthy four-hour reveal event, it’s clear the studio has its sights firmly set on contemporary warfare this time around, possibly trying to capture that same spark seen in 2011’s Battlefield 3 and its 2013 sequel, Battlefield 4. This move comes after a string of disappointments from past games, with the studio seemingly stepping away from futuristic shooters like the underperforming Battlefield 2042.

Four familiar classes make their return: Assault, who has access to an additional primary weapon and life-boosting adrenaline shots, Engineer, an anti-vehicle class equipped with rockets and mines alongside being the only class that can repair vehicles, Recon, the sniper, who can also identify enemy positions with a drone and deploy C4 mines and laser targeting guidance, and Support, who assists allies with supply crates, healing and heavy cover-fire from LMGs.

Battlefield 6 Multiplayer

The game will have nine maps on launch, including a revamped version of Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3, with other notable additions such as the wartorn Siege of Cairo, the mountainous terrains of Liberation Peak, its largest map built for all-out warfare, Mirak Valley, and Saints Quarter, an infantry-only map designed for tight, fast-paced gunfights.

Players will engage in these maps via eight game modes: conquest, breakthrough, rush, team deathmatch, squad deathmatch, domination, king of the hill, and escalation. Most of these are series staples by now and need no introduction, although the team did tease a “one more thing” at the tail end of the game’s presentation (The 37-minute mark of the video), with a clip of soldiers and vehicles fleeing an encroaching ring of fire, which does seem like its previously rumoured Battle Royale mode. The tease ended with a Battlefield Labs logo, suggesting that the mode won’t be coming to the game at launch, but rather added to the game at a later point, or possibly existing as a separate title altogether, like what Call of Duty did with Warzone.

Battlefield 6 Multiplayer

Battlefield 6’s moment-to-moment gameplay seems to harken back to past modern warfare titles, emphasising gritty realism once again with gun handling that’s noticeably slower than Battlefield 2042 or any of the recent Call of Duty titles. Players will be able to mount weapons against walls for stability, lean to peek around corners, and even drag their down teammates by the collar to pull them out of danger.

Most noticeably, destruction once again reigns supreme, further emphasising the upcoming game’s return to its 2011 to 2013 roots, with a montage of buildings being completely demolished and clips of players smashing through floors and blowing up ceilings to ambush foes from above and below. Finally, a new version of Battlefield 2042’s Portal editor will also come to the game, allowing players to create their own maps and gamemodes in multiplayer for unique custom experiences.

Battlefield 6 will launch on 10 October 2025 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but for those eager to get into its multiplayer early, the game will feature a series of betas, the first kicking off on 7 and 8 August exclusively for Battlefield Labs members, the second on 9 and 10 August, with the final beta between 14 and 17 August.
