Community’s Alison Brie Playing Villain Evil-Lyn In Amazon’s ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film

Alison Brie has officially joined the cast of Amazon’s upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie, where she will portray the formidable antagonist, Evil-Lyn, as reported by THR.

This new role places her opposite The Idea of You‘s Nicholas Galitzine, who will play the iconic hero, He-Man. Riverdale‘s Camila Mendes is also set to star as Teela, the captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard tasked with protecting the royal family, particularly Prince Adam (He-Man’s alter ego).

The movie, directed by Travis Knight, known for his work on Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee, represents the latest revival of the 1980s fantasy franchise. This franchise has seen multiple adaptations over the years, including a 1987 live-action film, an animated movie, and several animated series.

Evil-Lyn, traditionally depicted as a powerful sorceress and one of Skeletor’s most trusted allies, has evolved throughout the Masters of the Universe (MOTU) saga. Initially introduced in 1983 alongside Mattel’s toy line and the animated series, she has been a staple character, portrayed previously by Linda Gary and Meg Foster in the animated and live-action formats respectively. More recent adaptations have shown her acting independently of Skeletor, betraying him to gain more power in the 2002 series, and stepping into a leadership void in Kevin Smith’s 2021 Masters of the Universe: Revelation, voiced by Lena Headey.

Brie’s casting as Evil-Lyn adds a new dimension to her versatile acting portfolio, which has predominantly featured television roles in Community, Mad Men, and GLOW. She has also appeared in major films such as Promising Young Woman and Freelance, as well as voicing Princess Unikitty in The LEGO Movie. Her recent projects include leading roles in indie films like Horse Girl and The Rental, and she is set to appear in the horror film Together with Dave Franco, and the highly anticipated Community: The Movie.

As the cast for the Masters of the Universe movie shapes up, fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of who will play the iconic villain, Skeletor. Given the youthful casting of the main characters so far, speculation suggests that Skeletor could also be portrayed by a younger actor, potentially in their twenties to forties.
