Following the previous announcement of Kaiju No. 8’s “final chapter”, TOHO Animation has revealed that this conclusion will come in the form of an anime film titled Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission, which is set to arrive in 2027.
As announced via a post on the show’s official English-language social media pages, the film has also received its teaser visual, which shows a giant, multi-eyed Kaiju standing in the wreckage of a destroyed city. The visual’s Japanese counterpart also provides more context, featuring the words “The era of humans is over.”
Shigeyuki Miya, the director of the first two seasons of the Kaiju No. 8 anime, will return for the movie, with Production I.G also returning as its production studio. The original Kaiju No. 8 manga was written by Naoya Matsumoto and ran on Shonen Jump+ for 16 volumes from 2020 to 2025. The manga received an anime adaptation in 2024, which ran for two seasons, ending in September 2025.
Kaiju No. 8 centres on Kafka Hibino, a cleaner tasked with getting rid of Kaiju remains after a battle, who longs to join The Defense Force. When a small Kaiju burrows itself inside Kafka, he gains the ability to transform into a Kaiju, giving him superhuman abilities and making him the perfect weapon for defeating other Kaiju. With his new powers in hand, Kafka must work together with his teammates in The Defense Force to defeat increasingly powerful threats, such as Kaiju No. 9.

Many fans were disappointed with Kaiju No. 8 Season 2’s ending, which saw Kafka finally giving in and transforming into Kaiju No. 8 to save his teammate despite being ordered not to do so. Instead of presenting an epic final battle, the season ended with a cliffhanger right before Kafka transformed, so hopefully fans don’t have to wait too much longer before getting to see how this climactic fight plays out when Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission launches sometime in 2027.
