CD Projekt Red’s fantasy RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a brand new lease on life thanks to its newly launched remastered version, with the 2015 game now attaining its highest concurrent player count on Steam ever.
At the time of writing, the game has now achieved an all-time peak of 120,975 concurrent players on Steam, which it reached during the launch of its Remastered addition on 29 September. With these figures, the game has set a new record, even surpassing the game’s 92,000 player-count high seen during its original launch in 2015, or the previous record of 103,000 players during the hype surrounding the Netflix live-action series in 2020.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered adds a whole bunch of new improvements to the base game, including a new improved shading model, enhanced textures and assets, a more organised skill system, and tons of various quality-of-life improvements, enhancing the already excellent RPG for the modern age.
Best of all, apart from being the complete bundle available to be purchased for newcomers, the remastered addition is also completely free for anyone who owns the original game, no matter the version, bringing all the improvements and even its two substantial pieces of DLC – Hearts of Stone and Blood of Wine – to all players at no additional cost, a true show of generosity and post-launch support from the studio. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that the game is now seeing a renewed surge of players, as it provides players with a reason to hop back into the title once more.
The launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered marks just the first step for CD Projekt Red to build hype for its upcoming DLC, Songs of the Past, which is set to arrive next year, alongside the much-anticipated sequel, The Witcher 4, which is targeting a 2028 release. And with so many players eager to return to experience Geralt of Rivia’s journey once more, the studio’s strategy is certainly working as intended.
