E3 2016 Recap: Ubisoft’s Press Conference

Following Microsoft’s information blowout, Ubisoft was next in line and much was shown for upcoming titles, here are the highlights.

JUST DANCE 2017

It’s a yearly occurrence now. Just Dance 2017 opened the conference with dancing giraffes and pandas, and will come to all major gaming platforms including the mysterious Nintendo NX.

GHOST RECON: WILDLANDS

One of the more impressive showings this year, Ghost Recon: Wildlands is coming March 7th 2017 and was described as the “largest action adventure open world Ubisoft has ever done.” Plenty of action was plugged, with coop being a main theme. It looked gorgeous to boot, and I’m looking forward to taking down drug cartels in Bolivia.

SOUTH PARK: THE FRACTURED BUT HOLE

The best name for any game ever, the new South Park game will come this year on December 6th, for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Pre-purchasing the game will net you a free copy of The Stick of Truth that you can play now. Frankly, the premise and the presentation is so amazing. A must-play!

THE DIVISION: UNDERGROUND AND SURVIVAL

Following the announcement of Underground initial being a timed exclusive for the Xbox One, Massive announced the DLC will come to PS4 on August 2nd. A new trailer was also shown for the next DLC, Survival and free outfits from notable Ubisoft franchises will come to all in Ubisoft Club.

EAGLE FLIGHT

VR time! Charles Huteau (Ubisoft Montreal) and Palmer Luckey (Oculus VR) came on stage for a live PVP demo of Eagle Flight. It will come later this year for Oculus Rift and other VR platforms.

STAR TREK: BRIDGE CREW

More VR, this time with the star power of Levar Burton, Karl Urban and Jeri Ryan of Star Trek fame. The first Star Trek VR game boasts team play, with each assigned an actual role inside a starship, controlling the engines, the shields etc. While the graphics looked really bad, there could really be potential for some great fun during parties.

FOR HONOR

The trailer revealed the release date of February 14th 2017 for this hero brawler, and showcased the beginnings of the thousand year war between the three factions of knights, samurais and vikings, with more footage from the story campaign of the Vikings. It was a bloody good time, and I am looking forward to clashing with strangers with swords and shields.

GROW UP

A sequel to last year’s adorable physics-based platformer Grow Home, Grow Up will hit in August 2016 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

TRIALS OF THE BLOOD DRAGON

What do you get when you combine Trials and Far Cry: Blood Dragon? The colourful and frankly ridiculous Trials of The Blood Dragon, with gameplay of Trials amidst a swath of colour and outlandish environments. This is available right now, and it’s definitely a lot of fun, another hit in my book for Ubisoft.

WATCH DOGS 2 + DLC

With a release date of November 15th 2016, more gameplay footage of Watch Dogs 2 was shown, and the announcement that all DLC will come to PS4 30 days before other platforms. San Francisco and hacker culture? A potent mix for a rocking good time, time to be a hacktivist!

STEEP

A winter extreme sports game? A curveball right there, not since SSX have I seen such a cool looking winter game. Skiing, snowboarding, wingsuits and paragliding? Awesome against the gorgeous white backdrop of the Alps and Alaska. The mountain is indeed yours.

This concludes everything we have seen from the French company, some hits and misses, but more games is always good news! One more conference to go, and it’s gonna be a doozy, Sony is next!
