A First Look at X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Even individuals who have been missing out on news in the film industry should know that 2018 is the year for superhero movies. It’s bound to be a great time for fans, especially with continuations of huge blockbuster hits like The Avengers: Infinity War in the pipeline.

Amongst the many reasons for the unwavering hype is X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which will take place 10 years after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. Slated for release on November 2, 2018, details are still scarce, though it’s promised to be the most sombre entry in the X-Men franchise. After Logan, that’s definitely a bold claim.

Following Fox’s reveal of five new photos from the movie, fan theories and speculations have been floating around cyberspace. The first picture, in particular, attracted quite a bit of attention due to its similarity to a funeral setting, and considering the dark tone of the show, it wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to assume a major character may have bit the dust.

Apart from Professor Xavier (James McAvoy), Magneto (Micheal Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), the photos also feature a new character – a mysterious shapeshifter who goes by the name of Smith (Jessica Chastain).

Meanwhile, Evan Peters reprises his role as Quicksilver, alongside Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, and Alexandra Shipp as Storm.

It may be all gloom and doom for our favourite X-Men heroes, but the reveal of these new photos calls for more reasons to celebrate for fans after the acquisition of Fox by Disney.
